Sarmad Idrees

Ph.D. candidate, Mechanical Engineering
Yonsei University

I work on physical AI and humanoid robotics. I study how multiple humanoids can learn to collaborate on physical tasks, and how humanoids can learn skills from human motion or a single video, even when the demonstration ends in failure. I also work on human motion prediction and reward design with vision-language models. I am advised by Prof. Jongeun Choi in the Machine Learning & Control Systems Lab.

Before my current work on humanoids at Yonsei, I worked on robot vision as a research engineer at Retrocausal. Earlier, I was a research assistant in the Intelligent Mobile Robotics Lab at PAF-KIET. I received my B.Eng. in Electronics Engineering from NED University of Engineering and Technology.

Track-and-Complete: Learning Humanoid Skills from a Single Failed Human Video

Sarmad Idrees, Jongeun Choi

Neuro-Symbolic Embodied Intelligence Workshop at NeurIPS 2026 Conference

A failed attempt is a partial demonstration. The humanoid imitates the usable motion prefix, then a task-completion reward drives it to the intended goal. Evaluated on six in-the-wild failures from the Oops! dataset.
